How much is scrap in your town?

Its $170 a ton here right now, but I heard today its going down. Man I hope not I got 12 trucks to part and then off to scrap.

Randy, almost evert day last week when I was fueling in the morning you could watch a string of trucks and trailers getting off the highway loaded with scrap. They were headed toward the local scrapyard, I spotted lots of trucks of our era. Friday I saw a pretty good size trailer hauling nothing but truck cabs. I figured scrap must really be up..even when it was up in the summer I dont remember seeing that many haulers.

tin/ car bodys= $170 per ton
short iron = $ 200 per ton
long iron = $ 170 per ton
cast iron= $250 per ton
#1 copper= $2.50 per lbs
i carried 5,640 lbs. of short iron 2 weeks ago, it brought $564.00 & 3,000 lbs of tin brought $255.00

$8.50 per hundred ($170 per ton) here. I took a big '76 Pontiac Bonneville out there about a week ago, and got $395 for it.

hmm got me to thinking some of my junkers need to go get scraped ,so i can pay for a new mad dog 700r4...i see guys hauling it everyday ,some of it is scarey the way its loaded and what its loaded on !

theres plenty of scrap still ridin on the road down here seems like most car guys are asking about $5000-$7000 a ton

Dude I'm gettn hosed Scraps only $145 a ton here. We took 2 Cat D8 track chains in the other day and only got $239.

Not sure on the dollar/ ton, but it's high. A guy at work has been hauling in clunkers- $350+ each for FWD junk like a Taurus, Acclaim, etc.

guy i know drove in a beater ford van pulled the radiator and 2 tire and got $500[6,000] withe the stuff in the back

We are moving to another shop and I carried 800 kg (1763 lbs.) to the junkyard. They gave me 65 Euros (about 95 dollars). This Junkyard is located in Germany. Would be interesting to compare prices.

I did find out that my 1970 C20 weighs about 4200lbs on the junkyard scale empty (no junk or driver) with 3/4s of a tank of gas.

local places around here won't take it even if you give it to them, one scrap yard charges you to dump metal. they pay a little for copper, brass, aluminum etc. but scrap iron, tin etc. they charge to drop it. if you want to be paid for it, you'll have to drive 35-40 miles (70-80 round trip). at 3 bucks plus for a gallon of regular it ain't worth it unless you have a BIG load.

Its the highest its ever been here hat I remember. Alot of our trucks are getting crushed unfortunately. As was stated above a complete 3/4 2wd weighs over 2 ton. Thats $340 per truck. I'm just hoping it stays this high for a couple more weeks, so I can get these parted and hauled off

It is/was 9.75 a hundred here two weeks ago. Priced a driver at the crusher- $425 scrap value?

I took 4100 pounds of copper (jelly wire) last week................IT WAS A GOOD DAY!!!!
