GoodWrench/Qjet Questions

After 2 bad 1406's i have decided to try a reman'd Qjet but before I install it i was wondering if anyone could tell me the proper settings for the fuel/air, and i had noticed before i parked my truck for winter that when you went to open it up it seemed to miss, and it ran like you had a dead plug but i checked it all out and seemed to have been firing on all cylinders any ideas on waht will cause that?? I'm also going to install new plugs (45ts's) new wires (ac delco) and a new distributer cap and rotor button (msd) the engine only has 250 miles on it, and has never ran right should i consider checking the timing??

Re: GoodWrench/Qjet Questions

I am running the 1406 on my 68 chev, I had to do some tweaking on it, but it was well worth the work. Edelbrock/Carter and Holley are really not a good install-N-go carbs. They are set up from the factory to meet the demands of the many, but are tuned only to a few. They will run rich right out of the box, the company don't want you to burn up a piston by running a lean air/fuel ratio. There is an owners manual included with your carb, by this you can fine tune your engines fuel requirements. It took me six months on-and-off to tune mine in. I have no problems throughout the RPM range.
