Shaving factory speaker grill

Has anyone ever shaved the grill for the factory speaker? I was not planning on using it, since I usually remember that it was a dirt trap that only made the speaker rattle. And I will not be installing a speaker under the dash anyway. Does anyone have any pictures they would like to share? Any opinions? I also thought of removing the factory defrost vents and trying to modify some later model ones to fit closer to the windshield. Any ideas or pics?
