looking at a truck
I am looking at a 86 C10 short stepside that is sitting on a used dealers lot. It has 77,000 mi on it and has a small amount of rust in the rockers. Rockers have enough rust to do a replacement, not bondo or metal. 305, air, auto. seems like a nice truck but he wants 4500 for it.
I think that is high. I was thinking of offering him 2500 and see what happens. Any thoughts?

If its a 4x4 it is well worth it. If its a 2 wheel drive and every thing else is in good shape it would be worth around 3500.00.
the dealer has aleast 2500.00 in it and they know that they will sell it no matter what. I would offer 3300.00 and pay the tag and taxes . that should put you up to 3500.00

i think it would be worht closer to the 2000-2500 range if everything else is good on it. i paid 3500 for mine with a perfect body, no rust, no dents, new paint and everything in working order besides the a/c. if he won't take around 2000 for it i would look elsewhere.

it is a 2wd. I am going to go check it out in the morning and see what happens.
The rockers are the only spot rusting that I can remember, might have been some in the seams of the bed, dont remember. rust in the rockers is at the very bottom and is not visible until you get close and bend down. Any other comment or suggestions would be appreciated.

77,000 miles.....are you sure? i'd be willing to bet that it has 177,000... i could be wrong, mine said 86,000 when i got it..but with as much crap as i have found with this truck..bondo, rust... bent frame, previous wreck.. i am sure it had 186k on it.. 205k at the moment...

I agree with LOHRTBT and Low84 as well. Too high for sure. I got mine here in Texas for $2500 no rust paint not best shape (still same as bought) and 126,000 miles. I would offer $2000 and if he didn't want to even come down walk away.

$4500 is high. I bought my 87 (hard loaded Silverado in perfect shape) 9 years ago for $5500.

well, just got back and they say they cant let it go for less than 3350.
It has rust through in both the inner fender panels(I can see the firewall) front A arms are heavily rusted. rear of frame is heavily rusted. Leaf pack on pass rear has been replaced. both rear fenders have rust coming through the paint. rockers are in need of replacement. Exhaust ends before rear axle. inner cab kick panels are starting to show some rust. Did run pretty good, but I cant see the price he is wanting for it. I feel it is only worth about 2400 tops to me.

I think dealerships are getting greedy on these since people are starting to fix them up. I say an 85 SWB a few months ago, all it had was a seatcover, custom wheels, and a custom orange paint job..........$8900!

Sounds like my truck 4 years ago. Paid 2000 for it and have spend a fortune on it since then. Replaced cab supports, parts of the floorpan, rockers on both sides, left cabcorner, inner wheel fenders (both sides), left bedside, left front fender and of course the bed. Yeah I know I'm crazy, but these trucks are a bit rare overhere and I wanted something to work on.

I paid $3000 for my 1979 Chevy K10 with 90,000 1 owner miles, no rust, 2 minor dents and great paint!
To me that 2wd 86 would be worth $700 out here in Oregon. Buy a one way plane ticket and take a week off of school or work. And you could drive home in something very nice for $2500-4000 from out here.
