Well I'll be a monkey's uncle
The 4wd in my old truck works!
Okay, this isn't a monumental statement for most, but in two plus years of ownership I never had a reason to try it, until today. We're in the middle of a two-day thaw after an extended freeze and snow, so I figured I'd pull the truck up onto the driveway and fiddle with exhaust system before our next freeze/batch of snow. The problem is, all that melted snow and 54 degrees of temperature have turned the back yard into a bog, from which my open rear differential could not escape in 2wd. ![]() So I gave it a try. Locked the hubs, stuck it in 4 wheel high, stuck it in first gear (another rare event) and it chugged right out of the bog and onto the driveway. ![]() I didn't doubt it would work, I just had no idea. It never came up. Now I feel better about all the u-joints I have sitting on the shelf, ready to go in when I have the time. I'll try 4 wheel low on the way back down into the bog. Or I might just wait until the next freeze. |

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
couple of pics of my 61. what i started with and now. Skinny's or wide tires? Painted rims won't fit my disc brakes (on my closed knuckle axle) need new rims.

I like the black wheels, but dig the wider stance ones better.

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
I would paint the deep rims black, best of both worlds. Truck is a beauty..

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
I to prefer the deeper wheels, but am not a fan of body color on the wheels. How about a white, cream or silver color. I see they wont clear you brakes, if you cant find a factory style that clears, what about an old school wagon wheel (5 spoke)?

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
I guess i like both lol. the painted rims are a reversed rim (were given to me) and fit the drum brakes fine. being reversed is why they don't fit the disc. they are the same type as the smoothies that are out there new. new 15/8 ones will fit. Would like some old blazer/k-10 stock 15/8 but are $$$ if you can find them. No wagon wheels.

Here is another pic of mine with new super swampers! 9/34r16. If you want to take a rough riding truck that handles ok and make it handle terrible on the road , get these tires! Lol

Ya the narrow tires ride stiff but on the other hand look almost stock but way nicer with that tread.

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Just a mention, mine are 14.5" wide and ride softer with so much more air volume...but hit twice as many bumps cause they are so wide.
Mudman.
