Dropped coils.

I am looking at putting ½ ton dropped coils in my ¾ ton. I am looking for a better stance and a smoother ride. Right now it feels like the suspension does not even flex when I hit a bump of a pothole. New Monroe gas shocks have been installed as well as 235/85/16” radial truck tires (came with bias-plies and bead locks for an even stiffer ride and tough cornering.)

I am looking for about a 3” drop. And at a recent automotive trade show I met with Eibach springs and Bell Tech both of which have a very good rep in the suspension business. First off their springs cost about $200 for a pair and the max drop they offer is only 2”. Both manufactures said that any more of a drop on the truck and it would make the ride really rough.

Has anyone used their springs and the cheaper springs from our vendors? Tell me about ride quality and over-all handling. Nothing else is planned at this time.

Re: Dropped coils.

Spindle drop has no impact on your ride. Your better off getting as much drop as possible from spindle drop, then add what you want with a smaller spring drop. Anything beyond 2" with a spring drop will not have much travel, and will be firmer than you are looking for.

Another thing to consider is your tires. What size tires, and what ply are you running? A stiff sidewall tire will ruin your ride regardless of what suspension you have.

Re: Dropped coils.

This is a 3/4ton, drum brakes, 2wheel drive. There are no drop spindles for this truck. That would be the best but the only thing close was out of a lowrider magazine that have been known to break. The truck still has the 235/85/16 that was stated in the opener. There is alot more flex in these new tires than the last.

I am not looking for where to buy, I want to know what you have tried and how it felt. Thanks.
