Hello from Eastern Ontario
Hello there all, or maybe y’all, from Eastern Ontario. I’ve been reading this web forum for a few weeks, … ever since I thought about buying a ’71 GMC I found on the internet about a month ago.
Well I bought it, ... from pictures that the guy sent me, without really knowing much about it ‘cept it runs, and looks good in pictures (for a ’71 that is). I have essentially bought the truck in AZ, and am going down to pick it up at the end of April. A little history: I started working as an apprentice auto mech right out of HS in 1974, so I grew up with these things. If I’ve overhauled one Q-jet I’ve overhauled a thousand. I’ve been wanting something like this for a while. I kinda miss these things; it actually has a distributor with points and condenser (I’m going to have to dust of my dwell meter if I can find it) and a carburetor. Up here there are very few of these old things left, even in old barns; … the road salt works’em over good. In any case I am having it looked at by a local garage in Tucson tomorrow, with a view to seeing if it can be made roadworthy for the end of April 2500 mile trip home. In any case, if any of you New Mexicans, Texans, Oklahomans, Ohioans(??) or anyone else sees an old green GMC by the side of the road the last week in April, with a Canadian lying under it, and a little woman sitting in the cab reading a woman’s magazine, … stop and help a feller out would ya. ... from Iowa. If you get through here you are welcome to stop and have some Peach Cobbler and homemade ice cream... When you get close to trip time you might want to post your route back home. Here is a post from Josh with on the road help, contact info...... I hope the phone numbers are still OK. I have set up a contact list for people, please PM user ContactList with whatever info you feel comfortable giving, phone # and state is the minimum requirement. This list will be kept private, it is only accessible by Myself, mhc (Liz), Mudder67 (Randy), and Mac67 (Mac). The way it works is we have this list compiled, then if someone has a problem on the road they call one of us four, and we will then forward them to the closest person to their location to try and help. The contacts are: Josh 432-889-6013 Liz 919-721-8910 Mudder (Randy) 573-308-5720 LockDoc

Re: Helo from Eastern Ontario
Wow, great response. Thanks guys. I’ll certainly keep those numbers Leon, and enter my info in your database. I’ll let the group know if anything interesting happens between now and when I get it home (if I get it home). It’s a pretty interesting truck; I hope it’s as good as it looks. I didn’t realize it when I bought it, but it has an extra long bed on it, … something I was able to figure out from reading this forum. A Custom Camper edition.

Re: Helo from Eastern Ontario
What I understand from reading this forum is that a Custom Camper is the GMC equivalent to a Chevy Longhorn. Correct me if I've misunderstood.
