Speedometer swapping?

I have just redone my dash, but there is a problem... my previous speedo worked fine, but i bought the white gauge decals to put on a different set- now the newly installed speedo will not stay still!

say im cruising at 50 mph- every 3 or 4 seconds it will click then jump up to 65 mph then down to 40 then sway back and forth til it settles then click again...WHATS THE DEAL?

only thing i can figure is that the speedo cable is binding then releasing- making it spin up

Another problem is that the odometer doesnt work with this new speedo

NOW HERES MY QUESTION

can i swap out to guts of my previous speedo (with the working odometer) and fix my problem?

Re: Speedometer swapping?

The speedo cable needs to be lubed . Remove it from the back of the speedo and pull it out . Lightly lube it and reinstall the cable into the speedo cable housing and hook it back up . That will probably take care of the problem . Frank

Re: Speedometer swapping?

Use a fork to pop the needles off the 2 gauges then remove the 2 face screws and swap the faces of the 2 gauges then replace the needle.

Thats EXACTLY what i thought to do. Just wanted to make sure it could be done before ripping into a good speedo. Ill reuse the guts of the one that worked before installing this new one... plus the numbers are whiter anyway so i can read the mileage

THANKS Ble
