How do I know....

When is enough to stop loosening the torsion bars?

I felt up there, and it seems there's only an inch or so of threads left, above the c/m.

I'm not sure if someone has already lowered it some, or if this is the common starting point.

Any help would be great. I'd like to crank it as far as possible for now. We're bagging the back with leftover stuff my buddy has.
but the front won't happen til winter.

Talk to me. Pics are good too!
