Truck caps
Does anyone have pics of truck caps from the 60's or earlier?

Re: Truck caps
I'm referring to this as a bed cap or truck topper. I have been wondering
what a guy in the 40's, 50's, or 60's would have used. Last edited by whitewallslick; 04-16-2008 at 07:30 AM. |

Re: Truck caps
Mine came with this one. I have no idea how old it was but my guess is that it was added in the '70s or '80s (same as the rear fenders). It was made by Lund and didn't appear to be anything special, no cool '60s lettering or badges.

Re: Truck caps
Hoser's shot is a topper from the late 60s-early 70s. Most of the 60s era had small windows on the front and sides. The rear window was usually larger. Most were made by cottage industries, locally owned in small shops.
Aluminum skin was becoming popular in the 60s. There were many with wooden frames. There were also a lot of homemade toppers and campers with wooden frames and plywood siding. Doors and windows were whatever was cheapest at the lumber yard. They had a coat of paint that usually was close to the truck color. This style was going away in the late 60s, and by 70 most of the homemade wooden toppers were rotted away and gone.
