I can confirm that the e-brake set-up for a 1966 will work with 1971-1972 e-brake cables as I have installed a rear axle out of a 71 into my 66. Have you tried removing the e-brake cables from the old rear and installing them on the newer axle?
I don't have the old rear, but I have thought about that. Wonder if the older, longer cable would work on the newer rear/brakes?

The master cylinder that I used was for a 1971-1972 C10, and the proportioning valve came off of a 1977 1/2 ton blazer. You can use the C10 master (looks just like joe231's) I purchased it new at my local parts store for less that $40.00 and a prop valve off of any 1/2 ton chevy truck from 1971-1987.
