New Guy from TX
Hello All,
I know this will probably be a double post but what the heck, I guess I needed to post in the intro page first--- I am a long time lurker, first time poster.. I'm from Central Texas, Pflugerville, to be exact. Not new to cars in general, but I finally got a nice little project on my hands, 57 Chevy 3600 LWB, was a heck of a deal for $750 bux. A friend of mine turned me on to the 2nd series when he would drive by my place with his. This thing is solid with only 3 rust spots, rear bottom cab corners and drivers fender...easy fixes. I just started it up last week, when I bought it the owner didn't know to much about it, it is was a long forgotten project, he never really tried to turn it on, so he didn't know if it would....well it did, with little effort....purred like a kitten. Pretty stoked. Here is a picture, I have also attached pics of my other heap ('53 Olds 4 door converted into a 2 door with a chop). Laters Rey |

Re: New Guy from TX
Originally when I saw these engine mounts on the truck I ragged on them, but reading through the forum I realized these were actually a V8 upgrade mount..WOW.

Hello, welcome to the forum. As you can see I'm a nu b as well. Nice find on the project truck. You going to shorten it up or leave it a lwb. Also really cool Olds. That thing is very reminiscent of old school customs. Long and low!

Welcome! Looks to be a fun project, but just a word of caution about that front fender rust spot. You might find when you pull the fender off that the lower front cab corners are rusted out also, it a very common place for rot on these trucks .
P.S. That Olds you have looks SWEET!

Re: New Guy from TX
Thanks guys!! Yea that Olds has been an on and off project, I have had that car since high school, other projects have come and gone and that one remains. It has been a good learning tool.
Here is a bit more on it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=41987 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=115354 **************************************************** I have also posted pics of my daily drive a few years back, 53 F100, and yeah I know, I know, buts Chevy powered.......but i made up for it by selling it to buy the Impala, which actually became more of a headache than project. **************************************************** I am glad you mentioned that Cal 58 cause that was the first thing I thought about when I bought it, the good thing was that the front fenders were just propped up so I had a chance to really inspect the condition of it. By the way, your build and the documentation on it is unbelievable, without even asking, your pics have answered so many questions I had. AWESOME!! I am excited to be a member. |

Re: New Guy from TX
Thanks guys, i just joined and already found several guys that live in and around my area, its a small world for sure. I think this build is going to be sweet!!. Hell I have already had to move the truck to the backyard, people keep stopping by asking if it was for sale. Hell NO, I have had to many of those "kick myself in the rear for selling it" projects.
BTW looking for SWB stepside bed in the central texas area if anyone knows of one. |

Re: New Guy from TX
The advice about the rust was right. Every time you take a piece of sheetmetal off you will probably find more rust. Usually rust is hidden back where moisture hides. If you see it on the outside it's like an iceberg.
