Got my radio back from the shop

Well, after an eight week wait, finally got the radio back from the shop for Yeller. Let me tell you, this things sounds sooo nice, I can't believe how different it sounds over the stock AM/FM unit! Long story short, the radio now has all modern internals, digital tuner with LED signal display, 45X4 watts, auxiliary input for CD, MP3, iPod, Satellite radio, casette, etc.. What I also like is it looks completely stock from the front, I don't have to cut up my dash, and I doubt any thief would look in the truck and break into it to steal my "system". If anyone is interested in upgrading your radio, here is the place that did mine.

S&M Electro-Tech Inc
8836 Xylite St NE
Blaine, MN 55449

These fellas are just fantastic, know what they are talking about, and provide excellent customer service. I'll be going back for my next old car radio for sure.

Re: Got my radio back from the shop

Not cheap, $426 and you provide your radio. But if you consider the fact that you'll spend min $2-300 minimum for a nice new DIN, you really don't have that much more into it, plus the other features such as un-cut dash, stock appearance, theft deterrant, etc.. To me, it was a no brainer.

A word of advise for those considering this. The LED signal display they installed was mounted higher than I like inside the dial...it won't be visible when driving and changing stations. See if they can mount it lower or even externally somewhere. You really don't need to see it, but it will make finding the stations a little easier.

Re: Got my radio back from the shop

THAT IS SWEET...Man I wish known this a month ago before i HACKED the crap out of my dash. I had the wrong tools and was impatient and now i have a dash full of twisted metal. Oh, well....next time around i will have it done right, and in my opinion this is the only way.

PS...GREAT theft deterrent! even if they did want it they would have to go in from behind the dash to get it.

That is suh-weet! That's exactly what I wanted for mine, but I just gave up and figured I'd have to settle on a newer din unit.

Re: Got my radio back from the shop

Wonder if someone that is decent with a soldering iron and listened to an MP3 player mostly could take a newer radio with a aux jack and remote and mount the remote sensor behind the existing factory radio's number dial and the aux jack somewhere accessible on the dash and have it look factory with MP3 capability.

Re: Got my radio back from the shop

I wonder how much of a difference there is between them modifying a stock one vs. buying an aftermarket unit from ClassicParts. Do you have any close up shots of the face and where the aux./mp3 jack is? Thanks in advance.
