5 lug rear axles

I'm junking a 76 Chevy big 10 that I took the front disc's off for my 65 (Note: I think the spindles are larger than a standard 1/2 ton but not sure)

My questions is, does anyone know if the rear 5 lug axles out of the 76 big ten 12 bolt rear would swap into the 12 bolt rear in my 65? That would save buying the axles out of CCP or somewhere else.

The rears measure close to the same, but not sure if they would actually install, has anyone tried this? I've got the scrap man coming tomorrow afternoon to get the truck, but I'll have him wait if they will work.

Thanks guys!

Before the JunkMan cometh, I'd yank the whole rear axle out from under, but if you don' want to go there, at least pull the axles, and full brake sets. If you swap them with the full brakes, I think the axles may just work. But if it's long gone and you could have used 'em you'll be sorry....

I don't think this will work are the 76 rear is wider and the axle splines are different. You could always get yours redrilled for 5 lug.

Yep, their I believe 3/4 inch on each side wider. I've got one under my 66 tho. Only issue is mounts for it, which isn't a big deal and then if your gonna lower the hell out of it, I ran into issues with it hitting the bed side at the spot welds.

To repeat what others have said, the axles will not swap over. Replacement conversion axles are available or have yours redrilled and the center registers turned down. It is probably safer just to get the replacement axles. A 71 or 72 differential is a perfect swap except for the extra 1 1/2 width.
