Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
I had them on my 64. I took them off. Just didn't think I was gonna be doin' any heavy haulin. Pretty sure they're factory. At least they sure look it.

Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
They are on both of my 66's. 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton. Like bowties said, they are for heavy hauling.

Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
Someone asked about the value of the same type setup for a 67-72 on the For Sale board and was told @ $40. There may be interest out there for these at a similar price.

Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
They are on my 65 and I think they are the auxiliary springs option at $26.90shown on this original invoice:
I was hauling a 6 litre LS2 with T56 attached recently and you could tell that the helpers were kicking in about half the time, rough ride when they are engaged. TR

Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
I could have used those on the day I carried this load.
I think these trucks are really the first generation to have a car like ride. The 1/2 ton really ride a lot nicer than older trucks. Most people with older trucks do front end conversions to get better suspensions and brakes, but the suspension is pretty good on these. |

Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
These were known as RPO (Regular Production Option) #G60, Auxillary Rear Springs (500# each) This is a desired option and if you have a set, there are truck owners looking for this original equipment. Shipping, due to the weight, can be costly.
They require the landing plate that mounts to the underside of the axle, via the "U" bolts, as well as the rubber stops, to be a complete setup. I hope this information is helpful. Last edited by LILRED66; 05-16-2008 at 07:35 AM. |

Re: Leaf helpers on a coil setup
Interesting stuff TR and Lilred.
seems cheap compared to the $47.90 manual radio Won't be using them, but I see they're not metal bin material either. Would rather see someone doing a stocker use them. Might take me a few weeks to get it out (it'is a parts truck)and I have the '61 trailingarm setup to use. Thanks again guys Trent
