Thats just my opinion, i have had friends where the (quick connect) fittings have left them stranded in traffic at an intersection because they leak really bad or pop out. Scott, Last edited by scotts62; 05-31-2008 at 01:18 AM. |

Re: What kind of air line fittings to use?
DOT approved Push To Connect fittings are perfectly fine if one knows what they are doing and then takes the time to properly prepare the TUBING before making up the fitting. Emphasis on "knows what they are doing."
Take a peep under most any over-the-road truck and see what kind of fittings they use on their bags and even some on their air brake systems ... you guessed it ... Push-To-Connect fittings. |

Re: What kind of air line fittings to use?
I'm going to switch over to swagelok compression fittings when I change over to 1/4" copper line. Right now I have PTC (aka one-touch).

Re: What kind of air line fittings to use?
Hey Shane, What is the correct way to prepare fittings for the quick connect?...are you talking about a clean, straight cut with a sharp razor blade or is there more

Depending on the tubing, but sometimes you will need to "debur" the cut-end O.D. with some sand paper. Not enough to change the round shape of the tubing, but just enough to remove the "burr" Good Luck. Last edited by Shane; 06-02-2008 at 09:24 AM. |

Re: What kind of air line fittings to use?
That is a very cool tool. I put bags on the rear with schrader valves and I made the cuts very carfully trying to be straight and I used a new sharp razor blade, but I have a very slow leak on one side and I think I have tracked to be one of the quick connects where the tubing goes in. I wonder if I can try to redo the connection with the same QC fitting?

Re: What kind of air line fittings to use?
push to connect fittings are designed to be reusable ... I use a open end wrench the same size as the tubing (3/8" in my case) and then place the open-end portion of the wrench so it is "straddling" the tubing, then push down on the ring with the wrench while gently pulling on the tubing.
It should pull right out. You can then trim it and then push back in to make your connection. FWIW: I have had more trouble getting the NPT (threaded) portion of the fittings to seal than I have the PTC portion. P.S. soapy water in a squirt bottle will help pin point the leak ... cheap too. Good Luck. Last edited by Shane; 06-02-2008 at 10:35 PM. |
