OK, I want to get a Powertrax Lock Rite for my truck, But I'm not sure which carrier I have. The axle is a 12 bolt that used to have 3.08 gears in it. I had my friend put 3.73's in it from Richmond a long time ago, and he can't remmeber either. What carrier do I have? Did we change it over to the larger one or does it still have a small carrier in it?

Sounds to me like you have a series 3 carrier (2.76-3.42). The aftermarket makes beefier series 4 type gears (3.73 and up) that fit on the 3 series carrier and that sounds like what your friend did.

We would have done the simplest and cheapest thing.

So I'd be safe with the 2.76-3.42 carrier size then? What's the measurement of that one 8.125?

The simplest thing would have been to get a thick gearset that works with the 3.42 and down carrier. That would eliminate the need to get a new carrier.

If that is the case, you have the 2.76-3.42 (3 series) carrier and NOT the 3.73-up (4 series) carrier.
