When I lifted my 69 4" with a manual three speed and Rockwell my front driveshaft did have to be lengthened. It was way short. I needed to add a CV joint also, too bad I didn't know that when I initially had the driveshaft lengthened.
As far as rim size, I'm running an 8" rim with no problem but you might be better off with a 10" rim.
