Rack and pinion in 66 SB?

Any body done this? I have not seen a conversion kit but it has to have been done before. Seems like the way to go to get the slop out of the front end. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Tie rod ends and ball joints are also available from your favorite local auto parts store, to take out the play in your front suspension.

Re: Rack and pinion in 66 SB?

Don't know of any kits, but it's definetly doable. I'm using a R&P on my 66. I sunk my crossmemeber 5" up over the frame rails and used a R&P from a 95 Z28 to simplify the steering mods. It's working out pretty well.

Personnnaly, I wouldn't go thru the hassle of R&P if I wasn't doing other more serious mod's at the same time.

Here's my build. Just did my R&P mounts finally last Friday.

I really like the feel of a rack and pinion steering. I have never seen a link/ball setup feel as precise as a R&P They just feel.....sloppy, for lack of a better word

I'm using a 97 camaro unit in my 64.I made simple mounting brackets from square tubing snd welded them to the front of the frame.I just centered it up and lined it up with the engine cradle.I haven't aligned the front end yet but I have driven it a few miles seems to work pretty good.I'll try to take some pics and post them next Saturday.
