66 GMC Header Installation

Well, I went back to the supplier and swapped the late model (67-72) V8 engine perches for the correct ones that use the back two holes. Apparently, these are the same perches that most inline 6's used.

At any rate, they fit and my headers clear beautifully. Wow, what an experience....all I wanted to do was install some headers.

They are the same as the 6 cly ones. On the 6's they have metal brackets that streach out to the perch.

That's what I was figuring. Got the engine buttoned up this weekend, put the radiator in that came with the truck. Fired it up yesterday long enough to open the thermostat, but I didn't want to bother the neighbors too much with my open headers. I didn't have enough advance at first and it would pop when you revved it up. Tweaked the timing up and it sounded vicious.

I can't believe the carb works as well as it does after sitting dry all these years. I scrubbed it with degreaser, hosed it off and let it dry. That's the extent of my work on it and I get a decent idle and throttle response. I haven't even put a timing light or vacuum gauge on it yet, gotta get some mufflers on it first.

Looks great, but don't toss your original valve covers. Those without brackets tack welded all over are hard to find.

It's a wonder any of these trucks have the heater boxes still attached; it was one of the first things to go on my truck.

What kind of intake are you running there? I wish I had a two barrel intake with the oil filler tube.

If you liked that, you should see what I can do for a rib-eye. Pretty handy with a brisket too.

Edelbrocks newish #2703...mine looks a tad different than the one on summit site; production changes isuppose.
