What did you get done? 06/22

I had to work again this weekend but it was slow so I spent time in my yard. Yesterday I washed trucks all morning since it had rained this week. It struck me as I was wiping down the last one that I now own 6 black vehicles...:crazy"

After that I spent some time cleaning and organizing my garage. I am diligently working toward cleaning a spot out so my daughters car will fit inside. Any one want to buy an 84 Z-28?

Today I spent the morning working on my sprinkler system. My lawn has grown so thick that it covered the sprinkler heads, so I had to dig several up.

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Washed cars, cut grass, cleaned the pool, got my wife and daughters off to the beach for a week.

Made a quick trip to the bone yard and grabbed a sway bar for the ’80.

Spent today being bummed out at yesterday’s death of Scott Kalitta. Prayers to his family and friends.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

I played 'nurse' all weekend. My significant other had some surgery on Wednesday so we didn't get home from the hospital until 11:00p Fri night.

We spent Sat recuperating from exhaustion cause w/all those monitors hooked up to her beeping constantly throughout the night, there's no chance for rest.

Today was a little more relaxed & focused on trying to get her to where she can get up & about w/o assistance (she's doing great). Sooooo, I decided to do stuff she would normally do in the house instead of hitting the driveway (an attempt @ being supportive).

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Last Wednesday I traded some labor with my painter and worked on the restoration of a vintage drag car, Mr. 4-Speeds Sox & Martin Demon (sorry, no pics...wasn't allowed). Friday I went to the Back to the 50's show...EXCELLENT time and show as usual! Saturday & Sunday I spent time with the family, worked on a couple of my long dormant R/C projects, assembled the rear brakes on Yeller, and unsuccessfully tried to charge the A/C system on the 'Burb. All in all a good weekend.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Finally got a tranny dipstick that fits in my 6.0 swap. After much thought, I decided to order the s&p swap headers. I wanted to use the thorleys, but I don't have the time to wait on the "new" version.
Made my reservation for hotel in Daytona for the turkey run, it's gonna be crazazy!

Mowed the yard, clean up the dd's, cleaned up the camper, and the usual around the house chores (laundry, clean house...)

Truck Related - Yesterday I put the truck up on stands and started cleaning the front end up with a putty knife, and then noticed that my fuel pump had a leak. Today I swapped out the fuel pump.

Diggin' the R/C's bigblock73!

FINALLY!,

I got the lowrider on the road this weekend, ending a 6 month down time while putting the BBC in it. She sure is strong!

Went to 2 cruise-in's and could've sold the truck 6 times. Not too many square bodys here in the area I guess. Now, time to tape and prep for new paint.

I have been doing alot of cleaning up on the old 81 shorty lately. New rear NOS bumper and bumper brackets to replace the roll pan. New turn signals for the front bumper from GM. Engine also got some new pieces. New tires are on the way. Needs a drop, don't you think??

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Saturday, washed all 5 work cars, and then spent time with the grand kids.

Sunday unloaded 3 vehicles out of a 40’ container, a 64 el camino, 64 impala and an 83 stepside. But the important thing was that the rest of my rubber kits was with it so now I can get my truck on the road again.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Havent been around here lately been busy. Went to the track 2 fridays in a row with the birdy since the truck is acting up. Figured out I'm running out of gas at the 1/8th mark. To there Im running what should be a mid/low 14 second car but I end up loosing 2 seconds on the top end and cant run better then a 16.099 @ 84. Next friday should have a 14 second run which is just what my butt dyno was estimating. Nice getting LS1 fuel economy with a Gen1 carbed small block and being quicker at the track.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Was planning on retarding my timing, trying to get rid of some pinging. But I couldn't get my exhaust back together because i need to have a pipe bent to clear my cross member. It is entirely to loud to mess around with right now.

So instead i went to the bone yard and got a bench seat that is in pretty good shape, came with a seat cover. Brought that home and scrubbed it down, should be a dry and read to install tomorrow.

I also picked up a dual blade oil pressure sensor while i was at the junk yard. I have been looking for one at the parts stores, but they want $25. I ended up spending $37 for the seat, cover, and sensor. hopefully it still works.

I also finally got around to painting my old beat up diamond plate tool box. So far it is looking pretty good. should be ready to mount up tomorrow too.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

I hit a few junkyards and picked up a mint set of door panels for my '80 and a sway bar off of a Camper Special for my buddies '86. I also found a military Blazer that had some nice seats in it that I could pick up for $60. What do you guys think of them? The color reminds me of the leather in the King Ranch trucks.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Nothing really in the last two weeks, just got back from vacation at Hilton Head, SC. We unexpectedly bought an '02 Tahoe right before we left so I washed it and went for a joy ride .

Also mocked-up these weels on Dad's '62 Nova. I'm in the middle of a a complete suspension, rear end and brake upgrade.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Well no truck stuff again this weekend. Heck did not even wash my daily driver...

Mowed the yard, repaired my weed eater, set up and had a birthday party for my 7 yr old boy (We had a water gun/water balloon fight) on Saturday.

Sunday was church and stuck around for a youth group luncha nd helped set up for VBS this week. My wife is helping out, so I got to help set up rooms...Sunday night watched the NHRA race and prayed for Scott Kalitta's family.

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

sounds like a lot of lawn work for everybody this week! Me too, -- i picked up a little tractor for my land a couple of weeks ago and have put 12 hours on it so far.
When i was done mowing mine, i drove it to my mother's to do some clean up work around her pond dam area that was too thick for a regular riding mower. (Note to self: shop for a trailer when the funds are available --- it only has a 12 mph top speed, so the 4 miles to my mom's took 30 minutes)

Sunday i hung some kitchen cabinets and installed an OTR microwave that had all been sitting in my garage for weeks awaiting their fateful day

Again - no truck stuff -- unless riding around in my DD counts --- but thankfully , the aforementioned cabinets are out of the way, freeing up some nice garage space

Re: What did you get done? 06/22

Well...after a month of delays I finally got my 350 just about built. Too many distractions lately, with family issues as well as waiting on parts that I ended up buying after I tore this thing down to the bones and decided to replace everything.

This was supposed to be a simple freshening up on the heads. It snowballed into a full on rebuild in a hurry! Problems with the heads that this one had on it lead into getting another set from fellow board member Larry May the weekend before Memorial Day. Larry gave me a set of 487 castings! All I was out was about $100 in gas to drive from Springfield to Jefferson City and back! Many thanks again Larry! It was your generosity that kicked this little project into high gear!

After I got the 487 heads back from the machine shop, I decided that I'd better have a closer look at the bottom end. Glad I tore it down. The #7 cylinder had a tight wrist pin so I just decided to replace everything in the bottom end as well so that I know what I have.

The build went like this:

350 4 bolt main block, hot tanked, new cam bearings, re-honed to break glaze
#1182 GM forged steel crank, fresh .010/.010 regrind
Brand new GM powdered metal connecting rods set up for floating pins
Speed Pro Hypereuectic .030 2 valve relief pistons
Speed Pro moly rings
King Bearings
Melling M55 high volume oil pump
Comp Cams Extreme Energy 268 Cam 224 degrees duration @ .050 lift intake 230 degrees @.050 exhaust. Lift .477 intake and .480 exhaust
Complete Comp Cams valvetrain to complement cam including their 1.5 ratio roller tip rockers.
#487 GM heads cut for 2.02/1.60 stainless steel valves. Had a little porting done while they were at the machine shop. Comp Cams valve springs, rocker studs pinned.
GM Performance Parts dual plane intake manifold.
HEI distributor with 65,000 volt coil that was purchased from Skip White on eBay.
Accel Armor Sheild wires and U-Groove plugs
Ceramic coated shorty headers with 3/8 thick flanges.

Still havent decided on which carb I'm going to run on it yet. I have a Carter AFB that came with it that has been run very little, or I have brand new 600 Holley that I can top it off with instead. Anyway, sorry I'm so long winded here, but this has taken me a lot longer to do than what I had intended it to.

Now the rest of the truck looks so bad compared to my fresh 350 that I think the only thing that will do it justice is a frame off! I have more pics of the build here if you're interested in seeing them: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=288629

These pics are one after disassembly and one where I'm at right now. Forgot a few items that I need to finish it up, but I will be posting more pics after it's completely done. ...Joe

Mowed the yard, cut some weeds, cut down a dead tree. Got a MAJOR sunburn (or at least it feels like it). Wanted to work on the truck but wifey said we had no money for parts this go round.

I got home from a two week vacation late Friday. Spent all Saturday and a few hours Sunday trying to get my yard back into respectable shape. Sunday afternoon I started lowering my 79 Blazer. I finally finished it up this afternoon. Now i need some time to recover from all the yard work and vacation.
