Re: transfer case to trans

that was the factory setup in 69-72 Chevy K series, and I believe also in some 1980 trucks. Find a complete setup

Re: transfer case to trans

you can even use the 2wd transmission if you change to the short output shaft. it was covered on extreme 4X4 this weekend. cant remember all the details but i know it can be done

Re: transfer case to trans

you have to get the 4wd coupler? adapter? not sure what is called but it takes the place oth the tailshaft housing on a 2wd transmission. are you putting the np 205 transfer case on an existing 4wd model or converting a 2wd? if you are converting there are other things you should change also. http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/2wdto4wd.html is a good starting point

Re: transfer case to trans

no its a 4wd i have a np 203 transfer case and the chain is loose and the low gear chain is also broke and my truck will see a little crawling and a lot of mud but i just want a strong reliable case and my driveshaft just blew out the rear going down the high way so i have to replace that also so i just want to do it all at once

Re: transfer case to trans

ok the 205 will NOT bolt up to the tcase adapter you currently have . They have a different bolt pattern. you may want to make sure the spline count on the original tcase matches the spline count on the new tcase, the yokes match (same ujoint size), and the distance from the front to the back matches but other than that i cant think of alot of variations between the tcases other than the bolt pattern. the spline count and yoke size may be different because of different applications. read this http://www.high-impact.net/transmiss...ar/Tcase_NP205.
you can find a th350 to np205 adapter here http://www.extremegearoffroad.com/st...roductid=17182 but it is a little pricey.
also see here http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techart...ase/index.html
this article covers most of the questions you've been asking

Re: transfer case to trans

the tcase isn't what changes. there is an adapter plate between the transmission and tcase that mates the two together. it you could get the tcase with that adapter it would work. other wise the np203 adapter that is currently on your transmission will not bolt up to the np205.

Re: transfer case to trans

ok so the 205 is off a turbo 350 so it should have the right adapter plate correct

Re: transfer case to trans

i want to say yes but i'm not sure if we are talking about the same part when we say adapter plate. it should be the piece in this pic
if it has four holes on the transmission side and six on the tcase side it should work

basically you bolt this to the tranny (as shown in this pic) and then bolt the tcase to it

Re: transfer case to trans

it usually is left on there when the tcase is removed...it depends on who removed it

Re: transfer case to trans

I have pictures of my NP205, adapter, coupler that goes with my TH350 on this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=266278
First adapter picture is at post 13.

You will need the adapter (factory part pictured), the coupler, and perhaps the trans output shaft if it is different (I don't know on this).

Re: transfer case to trans

I just picked up my Th350 to Np205 adapter with shifter and 27 spline coupler from Steve at Backwoodsparts.com. Check him out he may have what you need. Oh by the way i only spent $168.00 incl shipping.
