8 lug Vs 6 lug axle

a friend of mine looking to swap to 4x4, asked me wither to swap to 8 lug axle rear and front or leave the 6 lug axle. SO the question is 8 lug Vs. 6 lug axle.
his truck 79 c20 with 292 4 manual transmission.

Re: 8 lug Vs 6 lug axle

8 lug is a 3/4 or 1T
1T = (D60 FR, 14B RR)
3/4T = D44 / 10B FR, 14B (later years were semi-floats)
6 lug is 1/2T
1/2T = 10B or D44 FR, 10B or 12B RR.

the 3/4T vs 1/2T front axle there isn't much difference as far as strenght.

I am not sure if you are talking about doing just one or both, but the gearing needs to be roughly the same for a driver.
