JEEEZZZZ!!!!! Youz peoples is so im patient!!! Well here's what I've done SO FAR.... I bought some "FLORIST GRADE STYROFOAM" and cut it in half. Then I glued the 2 halves together @ a 90* angle.
I then took some 40 grit sticky backed longboard sand paper and stuck it to an old decrepit dash pad I have left over from my old crew cab and proceeded to use it as a sanding block to shape the backside of the Styrofoam to conform to the dash pad. I then took a spongy sanding block to sand down the "RELIEF AREA'S" on the left backside of the console so it would butt up against the side of the Instrument cluster side wall on the dash.

Re: Fiberglassing the dash pad

I still have to trim the top of the console to conform with the top of the cluster bulge on the dash as well as the right side of the console.

Also note that this particular dash pad is NOT the one I'm going to install as it's too far gone to use for anything but a one time use only shaping tool.

Re: Fiberglassing the dash pad

And here is the monitor I'm installing in it...
2 video inputs,1 for a rear view camera and one for my DVD player and a computer monitor hook up as well for a future on board computer if I decide to go that route. I'll be installing a Kenwood DDX812 as shown here into my HOOKER brand overhead console I'm mounting in the suburban as well.

I was reading back over this post and you never mentioned glass. You resin the whole thing and sanded it but did you ever laid the fiberglass on it or im I just not getting it.

Re: Fiberglassing the dash pad

i resined the dash and put cabosil mixed in (its choprd fiberglass matt) if you build it up to much it will not fit because the dash fits tight. i did do a thin sheet of matt over some trouble areas. be careful on the foam because resin will melt certain kinds either way if their are any questions please feel free

i have some experience

Re: Fiberglassing the dash pad

I'm gonna wrap the green foam in aluminum foil before I lay any resin over it. Will see how it goes .

I have seen videos and videos on how to fiberglass but not yet tried it myself mainly becuase i see how to do all that but how do you fasten it. Like the door panel I see the two screws at the bottom but nowhere else. The speaker box... well how is that one held in?

Im thinking about doing the dash pad and even my door panels but thats what holding me back really

Re: Fiberglassing the dash pad

from what ive researched you do need to lay tinfoil over the foam.. you can also do this procedure to make body kits.. which is why i was researchign it in the first place...
