Became a member of the '73-'78 club, 4x4 club, & 1ton club all in the same day!

So anyway I think I've covered most of the sub forums here on the board.

'47-'59 with some cabs and chassis parts no complete trucks
'67-'72 with 3 or 4 trucks
'88-'98 with my '94
S-10 with a few of those.

Well anyway Last week I bought a '79 K30 Dually so now I'm a member of the '73-'87 crowd as well.

'79 K30 with a Dump Flat Bed. 400 Small Block, TH400 Auto, NP203, D60 Front, & I think a D70 Rear. (Motor & Tranny are supposedly rebuilt, aren't they all) It does have a New intake & carb as well as a reman plow pump. The Dump Pump is Electric/Hydro which is nice, no PTO set up to deal with.

Seems that someone changed the front end at one point cause it is not a dually D60 it is a SRW 60 but hey that is just fine by me, makes it worth more

Iwas contemplating sell the D60 and swapping in a 44 as I won't be wheeling the truck. Probably just some plowing & firewood/trash hauling. Who knows. I'll probably just leave it alone for a little while and fix some of the small things.

Oh yeh and it even came with a compementary Gun Rack

Photobucket is not being cooperative with me tonight, I'll try to get some more pics later.

It appears to be a K30 clone. Too many 1 ton features missing such as hydraboost brakes.

Very Possible, but the chassis appears to be a 1ton - it is super tall under that cab.

I was thinking the same thing about the brakes. I'm wondering if the Hydrobost had issues and they swapped that setup into the truck.

Who knows what it is exactly. - Vin comes up as a K30 as well.

Seems like alot of work to clone. Possible that it was a regular 8' pickup with the flarefenders on the rear?

Nice looking work truck. If you get a chance, check the wheelbase length. I'm having an optical illusion!

Yeh Im not sure about the plow - it is a pretty gaffed up backyard set-up. The plow frame isn't for the truck and one of the PO's welded some brackets to the frame (not very good as one side is broke right off @ the welds). I'll have to see if I can find a regular Fisher frame setup for the truck. It also needs some new power angle pistons as one of the eyes rotted and broke off. And some moron weled the cutting edge right to the plow - so I can't even change that unless I get a whole new lower edge.

The dump should be able to make me a few bucks on the side though. Maybe I can find a plow set-up cheap somewhere that is made for the truck, and make a little extra with that as well.

It does seem kinda short huh? I checked it today - 134" ???? (135.5 I guess then)

131.5", 135.5", & 159.5" seem to be the options for a Cab&Chassis

According to this

Re: Became a member of the '73-'78 club, 4x4 club, & 1ton club all in the same day!

Well a small update. (I've been a little slow working on this thing as I have been busy with customer's cars etc.)

The 400 Motor had a few issues.
#1. it was skipping badly, during some dectective work I found a broken rocker arm stud on the #7exh valve (very last one on the driver's side under the booster.
#2. I thought it was a little noisy in the bottom end. I hooked up a manual guage and found out that it had great oil pressure cold, but had 0 when hot.

So @ that point I decided to just swap out the motor. I was lucky and found a rebuilt 350 in an '81 4x4 with less than 500 miles on it. With the reciepts for all the parts and work.

Needless to say I cleaned it all up, regasketed everything as it had been sitting around for a while. I also redid the exahust as it was a "harry the hacker" setup

I also located an '83 4x4 with a correct & complete 8' plow set-up. That's the next project.

Anyway here's some pics for you to look at:

I love black paint on motors these days (Hides all the dirt, when they do get dirty) I want to tow, dump and plow somethings with it!

Ah yes - I hate headers on anything but a HotRod. They leak, rot, rust. Good old manifolds work just fine. I even scored this set on the parts '83 K20 and they have the bridges to keep them from "shrinking" & they had new studs in them already!

Well the truck had a Cobbled together Fisher Frame & Plow with Fisher Controls. The pump wasn't Fisher, not really sure what it was. Someone modified the Lower plow frame for an 8' plow for another truck (Ford or Dodge) and stuck it on.

I bought a '83 Chevy K20 with a Complete Fisher 8' setup. So everything will match now (including the pump). The only thing that I need is the correct pump bracket for the motor, as the '83 had some homemade thing (It was originally a diesel truck converted to gas, so they must have made a new pump bracket and scrapped the old one.

I'll get some pictures once I get the plow all on & working. Right now I'm building a Hyd. Tank for the Dump unit. The PO used a gallon jug and epoxied a fitting to it for the tank I'm building it because I couldn't find one skinny enough to fit behind the seat.
