Steering box?

My box is making all kinds of squeaking sounds when I turn the wheel.

will a 2nd gen camaro steering box work? I have the complete front clip and was wondering if it would work or not.

Thanks in advance

Re: Steering box?

The box on the frame or do you mean the pump on the engine? I'm assuming the gear box on the frame... If so, does it leak? Gave you braced it? Have you checked that it's firmly secured in place?

It's fairly common for the frames to distort there and even crack. When all that happens, naturely the gear box gets loose and may leak, squeek, pop, rattle, fall off, etc. I'd be checking on that and looking into getting one of the brace kits to give the frame/gear box support and prevent the problems.

That's all for 4wd. It may or may not apply to the 2wd. I just don't know.

Either way, sorry but I have no idea whether that camaro gear box will fit/work or not but I'm betting not. The boxes are different from 2wd and 4wd trucks. That much I am pretty sure about.

Good luck!

Re: Steering box?

OPPS, sorry its a 2wd, I am not sure if it is the box or the pump, but I was told it was the box on the frame

I have both items from the clip, but I don't know if I can use them

Re: Steering box?

get on ebay and pull a vin # from the same model camaro as your clip is from (and with the same engine setup) and call a dealership with and ask them the part no. for a steering gear box for the camaro. they'll need the vin # to look it up. Then do the same with your trucks vin and see if they are the same part no. If so, they can be interchanged directly.

Even if they aren't the same, you still MAY be able to interchange them. Since you already have the gear box from the camaro, pull it off and see if it at least looks the same as the one on your truck. If so, see if it will swap out with the one from the camaro.

Best of luck... I wish I knew a more definative answer but trial and error is the only suggestion I have. Maybe someone that knows for sure without all the hassle of trial and error, will chime in!
