Carpet Came in! Wohoo!
I got to work today, and my carpet was in. It looks really nice, it comes pre-molded, and with underpad glued on too. Also, I ordered a POR 15 starter kit last week, it came in the mail today. So, as soon as I can, I'm getting warm inside the truck!!
I can stop eating chilli to add heat to the cab I am also going to be doing the floorboards in POR 15 B4 the carpet goes in.... So, a couple of Q's for you guys.... How hard is it to use/apply the POR 15? I have heard that "Hidden Moisture" is the enemy. Would a hair dryer be hot enough to get rid of the moisture before prepping for application on POR? Are there any "Tricks" I should know B4 attemting this proceedure? How long does it take to dry? Any ideas/comments?

I work at "Partsource" evenings while in College. I got the carpet there. Its NPI (Nifty Products Inc) available through any Canadian tire or Partsource. (Or 'PM' me I can get discounts) its in the Keystone Catalog too.
Tha carpet is the Deluxe one, It even has a heel area lazer-bonded to it. I ended up chosing Charcoal, so I can still pick lots of exterior paint colours to go with it.

I have not applied the POR15, but have heard it's pretty straight forward. You don't really have to treat the metal or anything, just apply and let dry. (hey, that rhymed)
I would definitelly dry up an water that's sitting around, but that's about it.

J Spec, put away your hair dryer. POR is strengthened by exposure to ambient moisture. Check their website out
http://store.yahoo.com/por-marine/index.html Some tips for using it, don't let it dry on your skin, or you will have it a while, wear old clothes, if you spray it on, buy a really cheap gun cause you won't be reusing it again. Rusted metal is the best surface, don't sand to a shiny finish to apply. Once you open the can, don't seal it unless you put plastic between the can and the lid, or you will never get it open Takes 3 - 5 hrs to dry. Do not expose to sunlight, UV is not good for it. I am planning on doing the same as you, I have my POR, and was planning on getting carpet from ACC. Who has the Keystone magazine? Is it a Partsource thing?? If I order from Partsource and am not happy can I return it?

If you order it, it is returnable with a 20% restocking fee. Canadian tire and Partsource both carry the keystone catalog. The POR website has a section on "hidde moisture" that says to dry the moisture out of the metal to avoid any rust bubbling to surface later.

Shouldn't we use Marine Clean first then Metal Ready and finally POR 15
or can the first two steps be eliminated and still get the same end result?????????? All that stuff is available in the starter kit I got, so I'll use it and let you know. Afterall, why not try something new and follow the directions Thanks Bill, I read that stuff on their site too, but forgot until you reminded me.

When I installed my new carpet I left the old padding on , on the floor. The new carpet had padding with it so it's doubled up. Made for a more quiet, insulated ride.

I helped a friend apply POR15 to his '50 CJ3A frame off "restoration" and used the degreaser and the etch. It worked well. It must be painted over afterwards to prevent UV damage. It will REALLY get into your skin though and takes forever to get worn off, so be careful. Used truck bed liner as the topcoat in the interior, and a gloss black on the frame and underside. The moisture thing is really more about the can. If you get a drop of water into the can, I guess it freaks out and hardens up. Used a paintbrush, as it is supposed to be REALLY messy to spray. It is self leveling.

J Spec, Thanks for the tips on NPI carpets, I'll check them out this weekend at Partsource. bill_ont, last time I used POR was a couple of years ago on the frame of my 78 Malibu. I didn't use the Marine clean or Metal ready and when I sold the car this summer, the shape of the frame is what clinched the deal, especially when I let the buyer give it a couple of taps with a hammer. That stuff really won't chip or crack! But you can't go wrong by using the accessories with it either. Good luck and let us know how it turns out
