Intermittent WW's Mind of their own
I have a 82 pickup with intermittent windsheild wipers that seem to have a mind of their own. When set to the off position they sometimes start and run until I push the knob all the way over to the left. Sometimes they park where they are supposed to and sometimes they stop in mid-swipe. This has been doing this for almost 6 months. It has the dash mounted switch. Anyone ever had theirs do this?

under your dash located on the steering column is the circuit board for them..looks like a small heat sink or amplifier...replace that and it should cure your problem.

I have a feeling our truck's wiper modules don't die all at once... my wipers turn on 4, 2, or 0 times when I start the truck. Darn thing! I think I'll just hit it with a screwdriver.......

I'll stop after work tommorrow and pick up a new module. I'll let you know how it works after I get it installed.

Wipers
My 81 did the same thing. Took the switch and 'jumper' harness out and put in my 82 and it does the same. It's been doing that for 15 years.
LOHRTBT, mine doesn't have the amp, just the jumper harness with a small box (this may be what you are talking about) I'm the 2nd owner of the 81, got it in 84 when my best friends father was gonna trade it in, so I know it's original. I can call a GM parts friend of mine tomorrow and see if he can come up with anything. Virgil |

Chevy wants $93 for the new "controller module". The intermittent wiper control switch is only about $25 at Advance. The $93 for the controller was a bit much to spend this month. For now I just replaced just the intermittent wiper switch with a non- intermittent one I had here from a Blazer I had stripped last year. It was a direct plug into the harness when you take the controller out of the line.
I'll wait til I'm out boneyarding when it warms up and try to find a good used replacement for mine. Thanks

I've had good luck finding those controllers in vans. They seem to get picked over much less than pickups.
