My truck is not getting enough spark to run and I need some help.
I have a 1974 GMC 1500 2wd, long bed, with factory heavy duty suspension and a towing set-up. It has a rebuilt 350 4 bolt with a 4 bbl. with about 5600 miles on it. I got this truck back in august and have only put a few miles on it. It ran perfect for a few months untelone day it started to cut out and misfire. This got worse at a rapid pace and it got to a point where it just wouldn't run at all. A few good backfires is the last I heard from it when it was still going. I have since then replaced the cap, rotor, points, condenser, wires, plugs and coil and it just doesn't want to get enough spark to run. It is getting a very limmited amount but it is very weak. The original condenser was bad and wouldn't take any voltage. I noticed that there was oil inside the distributer so I am thinking thats whats causing the problem. What do you guys think?

I would ditch the points and get an HEI distributor. It's a straight drop in. If oil is getting into your distributor cap then you should replace it.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I might even throw on a performer manifold while i'm at it. So oil in the distributer could cause it to get very poor spark?

Oil in the cap can be one source of the problem. The other is more serious. If the bottom portion of the distributor is not seated correctly, one side of your engine is not getting the same oil pressure as the other side!! Since the distributor is going to be out replacing the intake with an Edelbrock Performer or RPM dual plane type will help your engine breath better. Performers start at only $119.00.
