My Wrecked '62

Some of you might have already seen this, but I want to post pics in the 60-66 section. I had just got the linkage of the 3 speed figured out, and was on my way to Les Schwab to look at new wheels and tires. There was a big van broke down on the side of the road, and I couldn't see around it when I pulled out. Got T boned right in the middle, I had just filled the gas tank the night before, an Im glad it didn't catch fire. I miss this truck, I need to find another one of this era.

Re: My Wrecked '62

If you look at the front license plate, you can see it is all smashed up. How did that happen? The rest of the front is straight/not affected by the crash. Oh and BTW the front bumper and grille are for sale =[

Re: My Wrecked '62

Well I sold off the obvious items, passenger door, motor/trans, hood, tail lights, etc. but there was still a lot of good stuff left, all the suspension, inner fenders, rear end, wheels and tires. The tailgate looks straight but it actually got bent pretty bad in the impact. I had it on craigslist for several months, no one wanted any thing else. I didnt know about this board then, or i bet it would have been picked clean. I actually traded the hood for my tailgate and some cash. it was sure fun squeezing the huge hood into my bronco and driving across town =] my head was resting under the front corner! I eventually hauled the carcass to the scrap yard, it was during the big price hike so i got like almost 300 clams out of it. I wish I had parted it out better though

First off, I'm glad to hear that you were okay because that looks like quite the hit.

My heart goes out to you though, that was a beautiful truck.

Thanks, the truck was great, not very rusty, but the hit showed me how much bondo was under the paint =]

Re: My Wrecked '62

Damn thats nice! I hate it when you guys post great trucks for sale, I have to think twice about where my money needs to go. Right now I need a super cheap, straight six/3 OTT beater to haul parts for my '68 build! Stuff doesnt fit in the back of my bronco very well, unless I take the top off

Re: My Wrecked '62

Oh Man, that’s bad news.

The shot of the passenger side was a lot more dramatic. Glad you came out of it okay - there’s always another truck. Same thing happened to me on the way down the hill from Big Bear. Lady playing with the radio crossed over the center line and nailed me right at the gas cap. Same kind of bend - but the driver's side of the bed was up in the air about five feet.

The money from that settlement bought my 65’ Chevelle.

Re: My Wrecked '62

I wish I got a settlement out of it, it was technically my fault, even though the van was in my way.

Re: My Wrecked '62

Hey softi! You are over here =] Ya now that I think about it, I should have torn the bed off, cut off the rear frame, and built a custom 3 or 4 link or something

But I guess the cab was a mess too....... I just need another truck!

Ya it sucks, I would love to sell you the fenders, but I dont have them anymore. The carcass got hauled to the scrap yard cuz my mother was tired of seeing it. I wish I had hidden it from her and kept it longer to sell more parts =[
