Really Stupid question

How do you get off the windshield wiper on 1986 chevy, this has the washer built into the wiper arm. I've looked in the owners manual, shop manuals so this thing is so basic that I cannot get it off. Remember everyone I live in Phoenix and it never rains, well except for yesterday when I found out my wiper were worn out. So I want to replace them again when it rains sometime in the next 10 years.

Re: Really Stupid question

Stupid Question? - - no such thing.

I'm assuming you are looking to replace the wiper blade, and not the entire arm?

On my '86 (also with built in wash hose), the ends of the wiper arms are bent 180*, forming a hook at the end of the arm - in a "j-shape". The wiper blade assembly has small tabs on it that you need to push in, and then slide the blade back - - in the direction of the base of the wiper arm. If they haven't been off in a while, they may be a little tight, but they should go.

Hope this helps.

Re: Really Stupid question

Reminded me when I was growing up here, it rained all the time, but now it's a main event when it happens. I like how the tv news crews put their cameras in the gutter to make it look like some major downpoor, would not suprise me if someone did not have a garden hose filling the gutters while it taping to make it look like a bigger event than it was. But the other night was the real thing.

Re: Really Stupid question

So with all that rain, were you able to get your wiper blades replaced?

Re: Really Stupid question

Nope was just out there, no clips to pinch in as you suggested. I went to checker/kragan where I bought the replacements, they had no idea how to get the old off. It is the old style with the spring that spreads to both sides. There are factory cuts above the spring, I thought by sticking a screwdriver in there it would release something but not, this has got me stumped I'll find someone who knows but for now I hope it doesn't rain soon - who am I kidding, I live in phoenix - I hope it rains soon.

Re: Really Stupid question

So, don't I feel like an idiot now (and you thought your question was stupid). I got my vehicles mixed up - - the wiper removal instructions I gave earlier are actually for our Pathfinder - - DUUUHHH

The truck wipers are actually a bit different. Here are some photos of how mine get removed. Sorry for the poor instructions...
