Re: oil presure sending unit

the back of your block right behind your intake bro
it looks like a boobie on a brass fittign with a single wire hanging off of it..
also some of the later models had a two pronged one on the drivers side of the block
my 83 has the wiring and the guage but only uses the one on top..
i just did that project three weeks ago
p.s. DONT over torque the brass fitting it will shred apart int eh hole.. not to hard to get out.. but not everybody keeps aset of pipe extractors around..

Poke. The "sender" behind the distributor is for the electric choke and or the oil pressure "idiot light". From the factory a truck that came with guages, the sender is mounted just above the oil filter. The thread size is 3/8 pipe. Normally it is attached thru a 90 degree firtting. If yours came with lights this passage is plugged. You may need a 1/4" square drive to pull it out. jim

so unhooking that one would be a bad idea since i have an electric choke and mine came with an idiot light but the thing is the engine has been swapped out and the oil filter is attached to my fire wall so where am i suppose to stick this thing to

Poke. I've never seen a firewall mounted oil filter. Fuel filters on diesels yes. Oh well. There will still be a plug above the adapter where the oil filter lines hook to the motor. jim

Re: oil presure sending unit

Yo! poke!
There's a couple of places on the block to access the oil chambers for a sender. Space is seriously limited behind the distributor, but the small, "idiot light" type sender fits there nicely. The larger "can" that an oil pressure guage requires will fit above the old oil filter location, and I've used the third location, behind the alternator for the oil pressure gauge sender for my Camaro and my FRANKENTRUCK, but it takes a bit of plumbing to fit it in that location due to the tight space,...still, it's bigger than the spot behind the distributor and more accessable.
Todd.

Re: oil presure sending unit

dude i used the "stock" boobie shaped sendign unit my truck HAD both and HAD both plugs but it has a 350 swap in it..
i was told recently that you want to take the oil pressure from AS far AWAY from the pump itself.. IE: the red circle on the red block..
soo i would use the aftermarket sender in the TOP hole..
that's what i was told and my stuff works fine..
i jsut plugged the side hole above the filter because it kept loosenign and leaking..
