Stock ride height question
Can anyone tell me or point me to a place where I can find out some info about stock suspension ride height? Since there are many different tire/wheel possibilities, what I think would be accurate is the measurement from the fender lip surface(that faces down) to the center of the wheel hub. Or if you've lowered yours what does it measure and how much did you lower it. For example my current is only 15" and the bumpstops are just touching in the front. I'm trying to get an idea of how much it was lowered...

Re: Stock ride height question
If you mean what are my 4 corner bumper measurements, I don't have a rear bumper and that could be skewed from truck to truck. Since one person may have a 4" drop but have taller tires than a person with a 3" drop and lower profile tires, but their measurements could be the same. So that's why I came up with underside fender lip to the center of the hub, because that takes tire size out of the equation.

Re: Stock ride height question
I was a Chevy mechanic for 33 years. The measurement I gave you is the way they do it, as they assume the correct size tires are on the vehicle. All vehicles (at least in NY) left the dealerships with 2 bumpers installed. There wer 2 ride height measurements for the rear depending on which bumper was on the truck. There were also frame to ground measurements at the 4 corners but those were so close to bumper measurements no body ever bothered with them except the frame\body shop when the bumpers were off because of a wreck. jim

Re: Stock ride height question
I see what you mean now, that's the way they did it to stock trucks to check it.
My problem is that mine was lowered when I bought it and it's too low for my tastes. All 4 of the bumpstops touch now, which I don't want. So I need to get a new lowering kit but since I don't know how much it was lowered I don't know what amount of drop I'd need to get. My truck came with G78/15's which were about 28" OD but mine has 30" OD tires on it, so right off the bat if I knew the OEM ride height I'd have to adjust for my taller tires. (Although that wouldn't be too hard.) Do you happen to know what the stock measurements were for a '76 C10 1/2 ton 2WD? thanks |
