Opinions, advice?

I am working on my 66 and right now am not in the poistion to start a complete restoration. Taking more of the rebuild approach. I just finished re-gasketing the lower end of the motor leaked oil real bad, but runs strong. So I just cleaned it up and repainted it. I just got CPP disc brake kit and drop spindles. Back is bagged already and going to do the front now since I am taking it apart.

My delima is that I have to degrease the engine compartment since it is so bad from the leaks. I know I will have some exposed metal after this. Also my inner fenders need some rust repair. So I am considering just taking the front sheet metal off repairing blasting that part of frame and suspension and repainting now including the firewall. Only thing is my cab needs quite a bit of work and I am just not ready to do it.

What do you think?

Re: Opinions, advice?

I think you have a pretty good plan. Better than mine actually. I was in kind of the same situation, and my cab and doghouse are in very bad condition. So I though wth, I'll do a swb frame swap, make my frame really nice and drive the body the way that it is. Well, while removing the doghouse to steal some parts from the lwb frame that my cab is still on what little sheet metal that was holding it all together literally fell apart. So, I guess it is really up to how bad the cab really is as to whether or not it is wise to go ahead and dismantle it when your not ready to replace some cancerous steel.

Yeah I think that is what would happen to mine the cab mounts are pretty bad. But it would be so easy to get everything clean up front and work on the brakes white the sheet metal off. I guess if I do work on it its not that big of a deal to take it off again next winter when I am ready to do the cab.

True. If I somehow by the grace of god get done with my frame by the end of the summer, Im just going to put some "band-aids" on mine and drive it till i get the time, and budget to do some real sheet metal work.

I've had mine in pieces for two years. Of course, Im going to college as well and that leaves little time or money for the truck.
