Buying and Selling a 1969 Chevy
I have the opportunity to pick up a 1969 Chevy 2x4 Custom 10 LWB, no options with a dead 350 and a 3 speed. The truck is totally rusted with an above average interior, decent wheels and tires and a NEW GM part(w/chevy lettering) 1969 Grille and Bezels (perfect, not in the box). I can pick the rig up for $1000, and strip it of the parts I want (the wheels/tires, Grille, Dash pad, visors, door panels and what not) and then I would try to sell it. I am wondering, is this a good idea? Will I be able to sell a non running rusted 2x4? (The only good sheet metal is the hood (really) and the windows are good, the chrome parts are good). I would like to buy this truck for parts, strip what I want, and then sell it. I live in Alaska. Also, any ideas on what the Grille's worth or the parts I am going to get?
Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks --Smoke and Fire The parts are for a 1970 GMC 1/2 ton lwb

$1000 sounds way to high to me.
From what you describe, I would say no more than $150.00. EdB |

Sounds like way too much money to me.....but maybe they are harder to find up north. I recently bought a 72 C-10 that started as soon as I put a battery in it. It's a 307/4spd. It is as rusty as the one you described, the interior isn't too bad. I gave $300 for it........oh yeah, it's got all 4 hubcaps and almost new tires on the front and 50% tires on back and new brakes and shocks all the way around. along with new rear coils.

I couldn't hardly give one away recently...plus if you're taking the "good" parts, nobody will want it.

Maybe offer the owner what you think the good parts are worth; I don't know, maybe $300? The worst he could do is say no. Or just keep looking, I'm sure if you're patient and keep looking something else will come along. Just my .02 worth.
