Distributor and vac advance

I have a 50 chev 3100 with a later 235 straight 6 - I think from a 59 IIRC...

So I am gearing up for some warmer weather here in MN and I am trying to get some parts ordered so I am ready when its nice out and I have time to work in the garage.

I have to replace my master cylinder on the brakes. I think I have that one handled but whats a good source for parts? I have used classicparts.com and was happy with them- any others better?

Now the bigger challenge for me is replacing the vac advance and making sure the distributor is good. Can anyone help me out with some pointers on how to do this?

Thanks, guys around here are great!

Re: Distributor and vac advance

If you can find an old Chilton's or Motor repair manual (they are being reproduced) they have a section of distributor maintenance and repair. A lot of times the vaccum advance problems are solved by a good cleaning. I've had good luck with Jim Carter, he was one of the first that started collecting and reproducing old parts 30+ years ago. Did you try the tech archives here or at Stovebolt??

Re: Distributor and vac advance

I remembered another source, right at the top of this thread: the on line manual project. It has the 55 2nd series truck manual and look what I found:

distributor serviceing section

Re: Distributor and vac advance

Thanks for the help!

Any opinions on parts suppliers? I know there are a bunch out there... who is using who?
