just curios on what gears every one is running and do low gears mater in the mud?

SO many factors to consider that one can't just say "this" is the best ratio ever for mud, everything matters.
Engine hp, tire size, tranny type, suspension set up...etc. (at least if your getting serious it does) What's your set up and what are planning on trying to do with it? |

Mud makes alot of rolling resistance that tends to "bog" a motor down,so gears help when wheel speed doesn`t.
Do you just want to hear what everbody runs and how they like it?You want to know the whole drivetrain,I think. `72 K2500 has 3.54s,Power-Loc(posi),12.50/33s,350/TH350,and it is good all around `92 K3500 has 4.10s,285/75s,6.5TD/5spd,and it`s good all around `91 3/4t Suburban has 4.10s,G80(posi),12.50/35s,6.2/4L80E,and it`s good all around There`s plenty of combinations that work fine for the hiway that are good for the mud.Pretty much however the truck was built works fine.It`s just a matter of gross tire size increases to the point that you loose power and need to gear down.

My diesel engine doesn't rev very high, so I depend on deep gearing to help me power through muddy stuff without running out of steam.
A high revving gas engine may be a different story

Well here is what I have in my 89 Jimmy: 350 - SM465 - NP241c - 3.08posi. - on 35's.
I can tell you that I would really love to chage out gears but surprisingly it is really not that bad in the mud. I guess the SM465's granny has helped out so far and it's mostly just hunting camp use. My other is: 69 Suburban 350 - SM465 - Rockwell 221 -3.73 not posi - on 35's. I would love to set up 4.10's in the Jimmy.
