Someone please talk me out of it!!!

Here's the deal, I've been wanting a 2wd blazer for 10 yrs or so and I finally bought one a couple years ago but it seems to be one of those nighmare projects that everything seems to go completly wrong with. That being said I finally have some decent paint a great running 454, interior is presentable ...

Anyway, I am also trying to get my crew cab finished and still needs paint, wheels tires, maybe air but still not sure. So I decide just to see what happens if I put my blazer on craigslist to see if I could get $5000 out of it and a guy stops by to look and is ready to by it for full asking price!! It still needs the front suspension reworked a bit and the body work isnt great but it's rust free and most of the hard work is already done.

I figure I can finish most of the crew cab up with that money, and have a truck to haul the family around in (we have a new equinox for a dd). I really want to finish the crew cab but know I'll regret having sold my blazer too. I really dont need 3 projects at my house do I?

Somebody please be my voice of reason and talk me out of selling my blazer!!!

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

i say keep the blazer and save for the crew cab, that blazer is sick! the chances of finding another one like that is slim. not to mention the money u would have to put into it. and if u ever wanted another blazer, ud be in this same spot, what to sell. i say keep it, u can never have to many projects

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

wow... ok, sell the crew cab and finish up the blaze. you already have a work truck so why do you need the bed? that 2wd blazer is going to be worth more in the long run if you ever need to sell especially compared to a cut up old crew cab. (unless it turns out as sweet as ojoes crew!) see how fast it went on CL! i have always wanted a 2wd k5.. KEEP THE K5!!

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

sit down and look at all the projects realistically. Whats the available funds? What will serve you better? Ask the bride her opinion. Which will you dig more when done? You know, what you like is more important than anybody elses likes. Build what you like, get the kids and wife involved, build what all you can enjoy, don't build for the car show crowd. Just an opinion from someone who built cars in the past to please people at shows he diden't even like.

That right there says if you sell you will regret selling for a long long time.

Now, If you were able to sell for enough to completely finish your truck the pain of selling wouldn't be too bad, But later on when the truck is finished and the new wears off you will still wish you hadn't sold.

Not too many things can take the place of something wanted for so long.

My opinion is to keep the blazer and continue trudging along on the truck, Rome wasn't built in a day and good things come to those who wait. It's only a matter of time before you have two awesome vehicles to call your own.

Good luck with your decision !

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

I'm going to be the only one that says sell the blazer. From the way you talk,... you're not really happy with it anyway. I say take the $5k and build the crew cab. (This is coming from a guy that LOVES 2wd blazers) If it was a 70-72 blazer my answer would be different.
Plus how much more money would you have spend to make it the way you want? In this day and age of people with NO money,... I'd take the cash. Banks won't loan money on these old trucks. Cut your losses,... and move on.
(all of this is just my opinion)

Do the math Adam. I have seen a dozen recent threads on SWB crewcab builds that started with nice crewcabs. They are that common.

Do a search and try to find a clean Blazer. You wont get any results that you favor. I have been looking for a pristine full top Blazer for several years and haven't seen one yet. Keep the Blazer.

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

One thing I have found is that there is always another one . Sell the Blazer since you put a price on it and there is someone willing to pay it . Another one will come along . I have had several of these era trucks and when I sell one , another one comes along . Use the money to build the Crew . Since you put the Blazer up for sale , it sounds like that is what you want to do anyway . It is possible that the Blazer will come back up for sale and you will buy it back later .

Build whichever on you want more. My money says the blazer will be more fun to drive and worth more money in the long run though. And you still have room for the kiddos. If I have to ask someone to talk me out of something, it normally means I don't want to do it in the first place.

I am going with Ken on this and I know I have a blazer too and I love pickup trucks too, but how many blazer are on here getting built or have been built? under 10 if that, then look at the trucks.

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

If you needed the money to ,say feed your kids ,Id say sell. If keeping it is not a hardship and it's something you always wanted and you love it then don't set it free it might not come back to you.The next question is $5000 a profit or a loss? Don,t forget to add in the blood sweat and tears when you add up all the reciepts. Just my 2 cents but maybe I shouldnt say since I have almost ever car I ever drove here in the yard now,mmmmm..... If you asked my wife she would say sell.

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

if you sell the blazer and get 5K...
there's a huge chance the 5K wont go to your other project..
i F-ing HATE when i sell off something (anything) that i have built or worked on.. because all that time and money invested.. upon sale.. just vanishes..
and sure as hell it never makes it into my next project..
bleh!
ive held onto a 67 jeep for 10 years now.. waiting to do the finished resto..
10 years.. and ive had several offers.. but tll u what.. if i sold it off.. i would forget the money in a few days.. ..
keep the blazer.. you'll kick youself in the butt for letting it go

Question Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

ok ive read over this a couple times and read what the others have to say on the subject and the way i see it, if you sell the blazer you have to make your crew cab so bad a$$ that you will not miss the blazer.

i did a google search for 2wd blazer with craigslist as the domain and found at least 8 in diffrent parts of the country mostly cali. which is not that far of a road trip if you decide to replace it later on.

i say sell your blazer and go nuts on the crew cab, not plants for the yard or
or furniture for the house. crewcab

normally i would not advise anybody what to do with there trucks or there money but you asked or it...

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

I would sell both and build a Suburban...but make it a retro Tahoe.

But if that were not an option, then do this. Picture the Blazer and CC all finished up, exactly the way you like it. Which one would you rather drive if you could only have one? That should be your choice.

Id say just focus on one project at a time. Thats what has kept me from going out and buying something to take up space in the driveway. There is alot of worth in a rust free car.

As said already, do what makes you most excited. If the Blazer and the truck were sitting side by side 'FINISHED' and you had to take one and watch the other one vanish into thin air, what would you be rolling in?

IMO, if you offered it for sale on CL and someone offered you the asking price you should sell it for that reason alone. . .

Re: Someone please talk me out of it!!!

Thanks for all the replies!! I decided not to sell the blazer, mainly because it took me so long to find one and I really dont have much money into it. The guy that came to look at isnt too thrilled with me changing my mind but oh well... I get VERY IMPATIENT, and know that I will end up regretting it if I sold it so I am going to try and wait for the money to finish both. I had a cherry 71 Eldorado convertible that I sold a few years back to a guy that offered me more than it was worth (then) and I still wish I had it back

For now I'll end up putting most of my effort into the crew cab since I can haul the family around and use it for a backup work truck if need be. I found some wheels that are going to fit and are inexpensive too so hopefully it will be painted and bagged by the end of the summer. My wife actually likes the crew cab and when mama's happy everyone is happy ha ha

Thanks for the input everyone
