Saved one today
Went to the local salvage yard today to pick up a motor for a
toyota camry I'm trying to get on the road for my daughter and when I pull in I see a 86/87 chevy shortwide silverado setting out front with no tag on it.... could it be .... for sale ? I asked about it and was told it had a salvage title and would be sold for parts and my heart sank. I told them I was interested in the whole truck anyway and told them to get me a price and went to load my motor in my long bed . the general manager comes out and says that they do have a good title and they want $800 -SOLD IT RUNS IS STRAIGHT HAS THE USUAL SMALL RUST SPOTS FULL SILVERADO POWER AND ACCESSORIES AND I PROMISE PICTURES TOMORROW I'm glad I got there before it made it to the yard Aonther one saved from the crusher Mark

Re: Saved one today
Nice! I found one like that one time at pull-a-part, but they won't under any circumstances sell a whole car to anyone... P'd me off!

Re: Saved one today

Re: Saved one today
A little off topic. The local junkyard here does that same thing. I spotted a 1970 or 1971 gtx there. It was all there: trim, faded paint, little surface rust, full interior, total drivetrain, couple dings, had been registered in 1996. I'm no mopar guy, but this thing was definately worth salvaging, probably worth a few grand as it sat. I tried to buy it, but got nowhere. Six months later, I drove by and saw it smashed and stacked. What a waste. I love junkyards, but I also hate them.

Re: Saved one today
I had a buddy in the 70's that had a GTX. Boy, would that thing haul. Had a 440 magnum in it. We were doing 90 down the interstate a few days after he bought it and he punched it to the floor and it went sideways big time. He sold it a couple of weeks later. Too much for him.....

ever again, only parts. I do have two friends that have junkyards that keep the title til it's crushed because they like selling the car whole if they can. The big yards would loose their lisence/permit to junk cars if they sold cars after the title went to the state, because the state has a kind of lean (the certifacate of origin) on your title that they don't want to delete if that car is still driving around. By the way that's the only way the IRS and ATF or whoever can legally seize a car, they can't if the person has certifacate of origin. Thanks for saving another one! I've saved a few and it's a good feeling. |
