I prefer several cans of Engine Brite and a coin operated car wash. It keeps the gunk out of my driveway...

if you mean the interior they dont do so good.. i have even used the rented ones out of Lowes and it didnt do such a good job... the car wash by me does interiors not so cheap but the soap they use handles all the dirt on the beige interior

Household steam cleaner - not so much.
I have a Jenny 760C hot water pressure washer/steam cleaner. It works awesome on cleaning all things automotive. Ken's right though, all the dirt and grease that comes off a vehicle is going to go somewhere, and it's probably your driveway. I will clean onto a cheap piece of plastic and fold it up and throw it away when I clean up a diesel engine compartment. Real steam cleaners aren't cheap either.

i clean and do ALL oilwork radiator work etc.. over old carpet! i usually keep some 4x4 rolls inthe corner and that's a toal driveway saver...
and if you want a dang good wash.. i used a industrial steam cleaner/highpressure washer.. they work great =-)
