Fuel Filter for FI

As I said somewhere else, I'm installing a Holley Pro-Jection FI system on the in the '83 stepper.

The instructions warn about installing with a fuel filter inside the tanks, because of possible issues of restricting the flow.

Does anyone know if the dual tank 1/2 ton step-side (Silverado) has filters in the tanks? If so, do you know how do I get at them? The system has a high-flow filter, so if anyone has this experience, and if they are in there, has anyone removed them before?

Thanks.

Re: Fuel Filter for FI

All EFI (87-91) pickups have the filter on the passenger side fuel rail, you don't want the filter in the tank, it would be a bear to change it.

Thanks, Chris. I'm installing a Holley FI system on a non FI truck. I was warned against coming against a flow problem if there are STOCK filters in the tanks of the '83 Silverado, 'cause I'd have to take them out. Holley provides a filter that rides outside the tank(s) that I'm gonna install...I just wanted to get at - and remove - any filters that may be in the tanks.....

But I don't want to think about it if someone knows they aren't there in a carb'd '83 Silverado.

Thanks for the response.

Re: Fuel Filter for FI

If i am understanding correctly, they are speaking of the sock filters in the fuel tank on the end of the sending unit pickup tube. They are on all of them, Carb or Injected
