redneck converters

Anybody have any experience with them ? I broke the converter last week end and with the hurricane coming through here my budget is about shot . They sell roller bearing anti-ballon plate nitrous converters for around $350 delivered . looks llike my only alternative right now or i'll be out for a while . Here is a link to the one im looking at . It should go around 4000 in my combo . http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-TH...mZ160289333619

Without bashing anyone here,,,, let me just say,,,, you get what you pay for. I know two racers that used them,, key word 'used' as in past tense.

Re: redneck converters

I,ve never spent less than 850 for a good converter. If you want that thing to last a while, you've got to spend the dough. Don't get me wrong, you may be getting a good deal. Speaking from experience, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. give coan racing a call. They've got the best converters out there.

Re: redneck converters

Yea , Neal chance or Coan would be my first choice . I'll be down for a while not only saving up the money , but convincing my wife that i need a $1000 converter . I had also heard of pTc converters . Another brand is Presion Vigilante . I mean i'd have a Neil Chance titanium bolt together if i had the money , Just trying to find a "budget" converter that won't die after 4 runs . Thanks for the input and keep it coming .

Re: redneck converters

My Fuddle has held what I've thrown at it so far. Probably 1,500 or so street miles, two 2-3 hour dyno sessions and 3 days of back to back racing. Doesn't seem like a lot, but there is a lot more I'll be throwing at it.

Re: redneck converters

Well , time constraints won't allow mine to be rebuilt , so i bought the redneck 3500 . I'll post feedback on it . I have a new shortblock that is in the final stages at the machine shop so this converter my need to be changed up later anyway . I just want to race on the 25th and im worn out from "hurricane relief and hurricane budget" . Just need a break from all this contractor mess to do some racing .

OH , and I never take sound advice as bashing . The added info or opinions help me make the best decisions i can for my situation .

as cheap as it is... just get it and enjoy your truck...and save and rebuild your old one or get a new one... Then sell the redneck for 200 bux....

Re: redneck converters

I got the converter delivered last night and installed it today . It is very close to what they said . It also looks beefier than my trans-king converter . Welds look top notch . I will test and tune tommorow night and will be running Cloberthon Saturday . I will report on how close it was stall wise and how well it takes a beating . I told the guy i didn't need a 90 day warranty , i would know if it would take it by the end of the weekend . Anyway we will see .

Re: redneck converters

Yes, please report back difference in finish line rpm vs speed. That seems to be the greatest complaint I hear about them. Inefficient on the top end eating up rpm and costing MPH and ET.

Re: redneck converters

Well I ran it today . Seems a little loose up top ( which is where i needed the help with my little trainer motor ) . They hit the stall right on the money though . Can't give it a thumbs up or down yet , as the track was not there and the street cars weren't helping things . I never got the truck to hook . I was able to bring the motor down slow in the box and and find the stall with hot tires . I even moved the bars to the lower hole and put a full turn of pre-load in them . No hook . Tommorow will be different . No cars without soft compounds period and BFG is the hardest drag radial you can run . No Nitto's . I also talked to the guy that built my J9 tonight and he said Trans king ( located in Galveston ) will be down for a while . Best pass of the night was a 6.80 @101 spinning and peddling off the the nitrous switch on the hit

Excellent info, this is the direction i'll probably go . I will probably meet Kenny monday .

Here is the best pass of the night , 1st round . It is almost .2 off my best ever . Air was @DA= 515, BP=almost 30, 58* F , 78% RH , 3200#s
Reaction = .2559 (Didn't want to red this guy had traction problems all night)
60FT = 1.4269 ( best ever )
330FT = 4.1808
1/8 = 6.5719
1/8 mph = 101.99

I had been 107 with the old converter and think that's were the .2 went . Is there a second gear band or some thing that could be slipping (powerglide) ?
I also got my A$$ drug first round with a 6.29 @ 112.11 ( 406 small block )
