Manual To Auto E-Brake Question

I have removed my stock 4speed and crossmember. I installed a th400 using the crossmember from a 74.

The problem is I can't mount the e-brake crossmember back in because the transmission is in the way. How do you hook back up the E-brake ? Thanks for any help.

Re: Manual To Auto E-Brake Question

On the '66 trucks the ebrake system didn't utilize the lever setup as on the earlier trucks. It just uses a cable that connects the two cables that go to the drums, basically making a U. Then the cable from inside the cab connects to that, and then on the pass side there is a rod that pulls the slack out of the intermediate cable towards the frame. Kinda hard to explain.....this is what came on my '66 Burb and it works for me. If you can't find this setup locally, the aftermarket suppliers will have it. If you decide to go this route, you will need to change the cables that go to the backing plates to the '66 length as well. The other option is to replace your trans crossmember with an original auto crossmember that has the e brake assembly on it. I happen to have one of those, let me know if you're interested.

It'll be a day or two....it's still in the frame. If you look in Joe231's thread "Our '66 Short Fleet Build" he has a pic of one he bought in there.
