Shocks for a bagged front end

What shocks are you guys with bags running on the front?

I've looked at drop shocks, building a new upper mount, etc. I've searched and read so much it's all running together. Help!!

You will have to find a shock that wont bottom out when aired out and that you wont pull the guts out of if you raise it all the way. you can use toxics or something like that, a friend of mine just uses monroes from local parts stores because they wont last as long compared to a factory suspension and they are easy to come by asap. Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks. I've been pouring over forums, online catalogs, emailing manufacturers, etc etc. I'd rather find a shock with a specific application that could be bought at most any parts store. Name brand stuff, Monroe, Gabriel, KYB, etc. Makes it easier to replace in the event of some sort of problem.

Looks like building a new upper mount is the way to go.

Its just easier imo they are cheaper a whole lot easier to find and you dont have to wait a couple of days if there isn't a supplier around town. Because we all know the stupid stuff that happens usually does at the worst time and when places are closed

I did, several times. The part numbers in the various threads come up equal to Stock replacement shocks.

I agree 100%!

If I build an upper mount that raises the mounting point 3-4" I should be good with a stock over the counter shock.

So you didn't find this post, which includes a link to a spreadsheet I created that allows you to dial in your shock requirements? 'Cuz the file got hit 6 times today with this site as referrer link... maybe others found it when they searched for "shocks."

Well I'll throw ya off track.....I just picked up a bunch of budget S10 parts including an air set-up for the front. I asked the guy what he used for shocks and he said he didnt run any!!!!!!! 98 extended cab 4cyl.....I cant confirm it, but he didnt have any shock brackets in the stuff he sold.

I set my Beater up for Bilsteins (replacement fronts & 88-98 rears using modified brackets). I'm curious how you choose rear shocks for your builds w/air set-ups. Do you have a select p/n you like or ??

I order my shocks based on length, weight of the vehicle, suspension type (IRS, straight axle, really heavy straight axle, etc), and the weight of the wheels.

Okay I need some more info How do go about digging up the right shock?
IS there a book that list all the specs or just down at the auto parts store?

I am talking about the air ride shocks. I call RCD with the listed information, and they set me up with the correct shock.

i just bagged my back end last weekend and had to find shocks.

instead of trying to guess what type of shocks you need before you do the upgrade, you should really bag it first and then get your aired out and max height distances. once you have that you can go to napa, or an autoparts store that hires knowledgable people and they can find you a shock that matches those specs. i paid $33/each for my rear sensatrac shocks.

i searched and searched the forum like you and everyone else with no luck. chances are your setup will be a little different than others so you maybe wasting money trying to guess on a correct shock and hope it works.
