Blazer tank hits bed crossmember....WTD?
I test fit my Blazer tank with the fleet bed set on the truck today...and the tank hits the bed floor crossmember. I couldnt find info posted on this. What happens with the bed crossmember? Move it or cut it? The tank needs to go up about 3" (Thickness of the C/Member) I had test fit it with the bed off and thought all was cool, but noooooo.....What have others done? I hope you can see it in the pics-Thanks

Re: Blazer tank hits bed crossmember....WTD?
i only had to remove approx. 2" of the cross member for my blazer tank to clear. you can cut it all the way out but it will make the bed floor weak, causing it to droop if you haul something heavy in the bed.

I took the cross sill out and made 2 stubs, one for the left and one for the right, the same size as the cross sill. Couldn't stand to cut up a perfect cross sill.

Re: Blazer tank hits bed crossmember....WTD?
It says minor trimming, when in fact they mean major cutting. But if you know about it before paint, that is a good thing. I believe you can trim approx 2" out of it and that would work

Re: Blazer tank hits bed crossmember....WTD?
I'm glad that I discovered this before I sent the bed floor for sandblasting and paint. Has anyone a photo of the modified cross sill without the tank installed?
Or accurate measurements of what has to be removed? Im up for shoulder surgery next month, so up-n-over activities arent any fun for me right now. But I have to finish the tank install. Just dont want to to excessive "trial & error" work overhead- Thanks! |

Re: Blazer tank hits bed crossmember....WTD?
Do you kow why they NEVER did that after 72, It was the worst place that it could ever be placed, wth the exception of in front of the font bumper. Sorry if I offended, but the stock location is not a good Idea, especially for a rust prone steel tank.

Re: Blazer tank hits bed crossmember....WTD?
Cut a notch out of it! I cut 2 inches out of mine and it fits great! Dont forget to cut some extra out for your filler hose and vent, they are right in the way too! I was fortunate enough to have my buddies plasma cutter at my disposal, I clamped a yardstick to it and used it as a guide and let er rip! you can cut bed bolt to bed bolt and have plenty of room, they are a ***** to get in with the blazer tank anyhow, I chucked mine and just use the other 6 now.
