Gas Caps
Are the gas caps from 70 different from 72? I took the emission stuff off my 72, so I needed a vented cap. I bought one for a 70 as it is vented but it is to big and dosn't fit the tank. What vented cap do I need?

Re: Gas Caps
What did you do with the line that went to the evap can? I'm thinking if you left it hooked that would be your vent.

Re: Gas Caps
I took everything off, and sealed up the tank. I thought I read before about people doing this, I just don't remeber what cap they used.

Re: Gas Caps
Youre telling us there is no vent bung on your tank? If there is a vent bung on your tank, then run a rubber hose through your cab floor and put a breather on it.

Re: Gas Caps
Stant 2378 is vented and fits the stock '71-'72 filler neck.

Re: Gas Caps
Take your non-vented cap down to autozone and match it up to one that is vented.

Re: Gas Caps
I had taken that off, but I still have it. Do you have that setup? Any pictures? What breather would I get?

Re: Gas Caps
Hwak Do you have the charcoal system parts? I'm thinking you can just leave the tank vend connected to the charcoal canister for a vent.
If you don't you could run a small pice of hose from the end of that metal line, and mount a filter under your frame. s/t

Just take a peice of rubber hose that is the right size and slip it over the bung on your tank and secure it with a small hose clamp; run the hose down the side of the tank and through the hole (that you will drill) in the bottom of your cab. Put any kind of breather (one that will slip into the hose end) on the hose that will keep insects or debris out of the hose. Your auto supply can help you with finding that. My Jimmy has to have a large vent to allow for the huge fuel delivery it requires, so the new tank incorporates that large 8an vent. Im running an Earls flex line with a small valve cover vent. You wont need any thing that big. |

Re: Gas Caps
I have the canister but don't really want to put it back on. I think I will try the vented cap that was mentioned, and if I don't like that, I will run the line as described. Thanks for the help. David
