For your combo you have too much duration and too tight of a lobe seperation that is why you have no torque, you need to be on a 112 with about 236 degrees probably max this is the cam that i had in my 11.5:1 455 pontiac with a tight 3000 stall and 4.10 and you have no combo like that

Sorry forgot to add this yes get rid of that dp and get a vacume sec... Imo im am not new to engines or c10's just to this messageboard

Well there was one day warm enough to fire up the truck so I pulled the carb off and adjusted the secondary throttle plates but I still couldn't get it to idle slow enough to adjust the mixture. So I ended up drilling a 1/16 hole in each primary plate. A funny thing happened. It was idling too fast when I put the carb back on so I was backing off the idle speed screw and when it got to a certain point it actually increased. Must have been when it came off of the transfer slots and started using the idle circuit. The idle cleaned up a lot and I can actually leave it running at 900 rpm without having to sit there and keep it running. I have a 50cc pump to try to fix the lean pop but I haven't had a chance to put it in yet. Its still too cold up here!

Well i am ashamed to admit it but I will anyway. In a previous post I said the timing was set to 36 degrees. I wanted to verify that today and lo and behold the timing was at around 23. Either the distributor moved (the bolt wasn't tightened very tight) or I set the timing without removing the vacuum line. Anyway now I have a truck that performs like its supposed to. No popping back, no hesitation, and the idle quality exceeds what I thought it ever could be(still rough but it doesn't stall). I am amazed at how much power it makes. Time for a few g-tech runs! Thanks for all the help and advice guys.

having that timing right make all the difference. i was up at the track and had mine about 7 degrees too low. bumped it up and knocked 4 tenths off my et and picked up 2 mph. gotta love it when it something simple. Chris.

Well I got the new transmission in. I went with the TCI th350 transbrake, manual valve body, reverse shift pattern. Took the truck out for a couple gtech runs on a closed course First run 14.07 at 98 with wheel spin and surging at the top end. The second run is the one in the video and I rolled into the throttle off the line. The truck didn't surge but definately ran out of power at the top of third gear. It was 14.45 at 95 mph.
