Add-on Tach Pics/Info
HI guys,
I did some towing this week and figured out that I could use a tach. Anyone have pics on where they put theirs and what kind used? I'm think of a steering column mount but am open to ideas. Thanks! |

If you get a small one, the best place for it is screwed onto the plastic windshild trim just above the dash.
Some trucks have a gap between the metal part of the dash and the door seal that you can put the wires through, mine had that hole there allready so I used it. |

Re: Add-on Tach Pics/Info
i couldn't drill into the dash(which would probably be the best place to put gauges); i just couldn't psychologically do it----truck is too nice.
So i used the ash tray: This won't work if you're a smoker. And this is not the best place for visability, but the bezel slides into the ashtray door pretty good. By the way, it's difficult to find a 3 3/8" bezel----not too many people make one. What i'm planning on doing next, as i add more gauges----oil press, water temp, fuel pres etc. is to get an overhead console, like the one sold by LMC and mount all the gauges, including the tach, off of that. It's unfortunate no one sells an A-pillar mount for these trucks; i feel they would get all the marbles if they could bring it to market. |

Autometer 5" silver sport comp. Just a simple little bracket mounted to the face of the bezel directly in your field of vision. Never liked looking down or off to the side. Wires will go down between the defroster vent and opening but I didn't want the wire run like that so I punched a hole in the top of the dash with 2" of 1/4" convoluted tubing covering the wires

If you don't have air, the lower left corner is a good place for a mini tach. i don't have pics, but that's how my truck was before I restored it.

Re: Add-on Tach Pics/Info
I saw one mounted to the cowl on the outside of the truck. Looked kinda cool but I don't know how it would hold up. I agreee the lower windsheild piller is a nice sport or if u don't have tilt on the colum is nice too since who really watches the gas gauge anyways
