Is it me...or is this a little high for an AM/FM radio?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-...Q5fAccessories
This radio (model # 21TPP3) is at $344 with five days to go...and the AM doesn't work? To me that seems a tad high but maybe I don't fully understand the value of our radios.

Some things I find ridiculous as far as pricing goes. You can get a very nice am/fm/cd/ipod ready for $100.00 kenwood or pioneer which is what i did..But of course to someone who does not want to cut the dash that radio might be worth hundreds....Who knows.

I might be able to understand going that high if it fully worked and the chrome was perfect. But that's just insane when the AM doesn't even function. Of course there are a lot of people who think that just because they got it on ebay they got a good deal.

Hey 70cst.
If I had known these could bring that kind of money I would have traded you mine for those wheels.

Geeeeeeee.....and I would have traded....not. It is surprising me how much some of these radios bring. I agree with Bears63...if that was a restored radio then maybe.
Hey Southern C10...what wheels? Just kidding. They are safe and dry in my garage.

Even IF everything worked well on it I can't see it being worth that much. But, I guess if folks are willing to put the bids on it, then it is worth that much to someone.

They are ridiculously over-priced. The technology is 40 yrs old no matter how you look at it. I have one completely re-built and you can't hear it once you start the truck.
CustomAuto Sound is made by Kenwood, and it rocks

I guess we will find out what it is worth in a few days when the auction closes. Isn't supply and demand great!

You think that is outrageous...look at Ebay auction number 350201021236. That is just flat out retarded. 70CST, I should have asked this much for those door sweeps I sold to you!

Re: Is it me...or is this a little high for an AM/FM radio?
The trick is you have a fake bidder bid a huge amount right after you put a low ball bid in. You then have the fake bidder retract his bid at the last minute, so you get it for the low ball price. People won't look at the item because it is over priced, so they won't bid. Ebay goes along with this, so you list with a higher reserve and or starting price and pay a higher listing fee. It could also be a Nigerian bidder trying the send me the extra money back scam.

Re: Is it me...or is this a little high for an AM/FM radio?
Honestly, the Custom Auto Sound stereos are CRAP. The guts are Kenwood; the face and controls are CAS. On previous vehicles, I've had 2 amps go out on me, plus some "button" issues. The one I have now already has a burned out light and won't turn off because the switch went bad. It's 2 years old and I only drive the truck about 1500 miles a year.

Re: Is it me...or is this a little high for an AM/FM radio?
I think CAS just hates me. I can hear it now, "Here he comes. Get the busted up reject radio boxed up and ready to go!"
Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, overpriced stock radios. I think E-bay is getting the Barrett-Jackson Syndrome. It's old; it must be worth 6 figures... NOPE! Some things are junk, regardless of what the auctions might say! |

Re: Is it me...or is this a little high for an AM/FM radio?
I won`t buy another Custom Autosound unit.
I can`t believe this guy is only offering information "told" him by the previous owner.I wonder what the previous owner charged him? Is it worth it?"It`s only worth what someone will pay"...right?well,two feel it`s worth over $300 according to their offers. These radios are actually very good quality in proper working order.but,to me and what I need, they are only a face to look correct or at least fit.It was never uncommon to see a different radio in that whole.I always replaced with AM/FM/Cassette units.I`d use one of those as readily as a factory radio. If the truck didn`t come with one lisred on the SPID,why pay all that money. It`s not correct.Correctness is what drives factory options up in cost.I`d just take a dime a dozen AM to a rebuilder and have them do thier stuff.I can get AM/FM @ 180w along with CD/XM/MP3 ready and just look like an AM.I`ll just set my favorite 5 FM stations and roll with it.I just bought a GM-Delco AM/FM from something(who knows) for $60 shipped and will have that done up.My `72 has a car AM in it and that will get done-up all modern-tech.It says "Sonic" which I think was Olds.I also have an Alpine AM/FM/Cassette with component amp along with a matching cell phone that turns the radio down or pauses the tape when a call comes in.It`s analog. But,I`m sure I could have someone put the digital phone works in there so I can use it.That`s my plan, anyway.

That’s amazing especially that the AM doesn't work.

Something about this radio doesn't seem right. Can't put a finger on it. Maybe it's the knobs, the rear connector or antenna hole???

The knobs are incorrect, the rear connector is correct, and there is no picture showing the antenna hole.
