46 chevy truck

Got rid of my other project and took this on. What do you think. 400 sbc/350 turbo, power windows, custom frame and i beam front end with 4 bar set up. The bed was made from scratch and has a john deer fuel tank. The front windshield is cut and ready and will still tilt out. My friend started building this truck and got boored. I got it started today and going to get on it and hope to get it ready for the 4th.

Re: 46 chevy truck

Thanks, hope it fits in this site. I dont think of it as a rat but as a rod in its starting stages. I got a blown big block in the makeings for it. Hope to get it in by mid winter. Will start a build tread when i get realy going on it.

Re: 46 chevy truck

Speaking of rat rods, I've got an extra '49 cab and frame I've been thinking about ratting out.

To get the right look I'd need to pinch the frame in front and behind the cab way down, Z both ends as well as channel the cab way down over it.

There's a very talented street rod fabricator in my home town I've talked to about it and he's confident we could do it once I make the final go or no go decision.

Re: 46 chevy truck

Mine is got a whole rodeo rear frame section with square tubing built off the rear frame. Then when the front was added he used the front frame off the original and did a small step up. Not hard, but u get 6 lug on rear and 5 lug on front. So he took the rear axles and drums to his buddys machine shop and had it all converted to chevy five lug. Let me know if you need anything and maybe can help with pics of mine.

Nice score. Whatever you want to call it, most call 'em rat rods and I love 'em.

IMHO the 47-54's don't make real good rats. Just too "fat"
This one's a 53 and one of the few that I think look halfway decent.

Yeah, they are really wide in comparison to the typical hot rod frame. We talked about sectioning it to narrow it down but that's a ton of extra work.

We've also talked about making a bobtail out of it, basically using a hot rod rear setup with just a turtle deck behind the cab. If we did that we'd leave the hood off and most likely leave the grill out.

Anyway, enough about my truck and let's see some pictures of the '46 as it progresses.
